I started this blog in the Fall of 2011 to create a space that could allow me to discover my passions and to share my love for food and nutrition. I graduated from UCLA in June and hit the ‘Wow, my life just started. Crap.’ feeling. So what did I do then? I started a blog. I never even read blogs, but for some bizarre reason, it seemed like a fun idea. And thus, The Fresh Find was born. I knew my passions stemmed in health, fitness and nutrition, but I wasn’t sure where that would take me.
I am so grateful for the path that this blog takes me on. It allows me to combine my love for health, nutrition, cooking and photography in one space. In the short life of The Fresh Find, I have discovered so much about myself. My blog has evolved and I can only hope that it is a reflection of who I have become in the last few years.
Previously, I was employed by a major accounting firm and was not the happiest camper. I studied hard and became a licensed CPA but I wasn’t fulfilled. The Fresh Find helped me tremendously to land in the natural products industry with Mamma Chia. I haven’t looked back once.
I am an advocate of living a healthy and active lifestyle. (I do not have a degree in nutrition, so any nutritional information is from reading that I have done on the side.) I believe that being healthy is a matter of being healthy on the inside and outside. By fueling your body with natural foods and products and maintaining an active lifestyle, you are supporting your body for the present and also the future.
I don’t work out and eat healthy to ‘be skinny’ or to ‘lose weight’. I do it because the sweat, the endorphins, and wholesome food gives me energy and makes me feel good. In order to be the best you can be, you need to focus on yourself internally and let that inner beauty shine through.
A little about me:
Where am I?: I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and moved –> Los Angeles, attending UCLA, then moved –> Austin. Why Austin? Read about my move here.
Moving to Austin was the biggest decision I have made, and can whole-heartedly say it has been the best decision thus far. I get to be active and eat at great food joints, all while enjoying the company of the nicest people. Austin is full of active, fun, friendly, music-loving, food-loving people… what’s not to love?
Favorite place to Eat in Austin: Tough tie between Bouldin Creek Cafe, Blue Dahlia and Salty Sow.
Favorite food: I love shrimp and crab, Thai food, my mom’s sticky rice, or a classic grilled eggplant veggie sandwich on whole wheat bread Oh, and I loooove oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.
Vegetarian? Vegan?: Neither! I tend to eat towards the vegetarian/pescatarian side, and will seek out vegetarian and vegan restaurants. Meatwise, I mostly eat chicken and turkey, only because I don’t really like the taste of beef.
What’s fun for me: I love being outdoors and active. Whether it’s flag football, biking, rock climbing, paddle boarding, volleyball, or frisbee… count me in. I also have my yoga teaching certification and always up for some sweaty yoga.
My dream job?: Get paid to travel the world and eat. (anyone hiring?)
