I started this blog in the Fall of 2011 to create a space that could allow me to discover my passions and to share my love for food and nutrition. I graduated from UCLA in June and hit the ‘Wow, my life just started. Crap.’ feeling. So what did I do then? I started a blog. I never even read blogs, but for some bizarre reason, it seemed like a fun idea. And thus, The Fresh Find was born. I knew my passions stemmed in health, fitness and nutrition, but I wasn’t sure where that would take me.
The Fresh Find was my little secret for awhile. It was just for me and I liked it. Eventually, I told my family and a few friends about it, and now here you are, reading about me!
I am so grateful for the path that this blog takes me on. It allows me to combine my love for health, nutrition, cooking and photography in one space. In the short life of The Fresh Find, I have discovered so much about myself. My blog has developed, evolved and I can only hope that it is a reflection of who I have become in the last few years.
Previously, I was employed by a major accounting firm and was not the happiest camper. The work was not stimulating to me and did not involve my love for nutrition and food (especially not while ordering lunch and dinner in the office). I went on to study and pass my CPA exams, but knew I did not want to continue in the field. I felt stuck and lost, yet hopeful that The Fresh Find would launch me to something else. I won the jackpot and am now the Southwest Territory Manager for Mamma Chia. Seriously, I get to talk about Chia seeds all day… is this a dream? I left Corporate America, the stability of a large firm, a nice salary and I have never, ever, ever looked back. And I don’t think I ever will.
On here, you will find simple healthy recipes, health/nutrition facts and random blurbs from me. I typically post dishes that are whole grain, fiber filled, or include a superfood! I also attempt some ‘recipe make-overs’, which I try to make a typically unhealthy dish, healthier. (Don’t worry, it will only be up here if it’s a success.)
I am an advocate of living a healthy and active lifestyle. (I do not have a degree in nutrition, so any nutritional information is from reading that I have done on the side.) I believe that being healthy is a matter of being healthy on the inside and outside. By fueling your body with natural foods and products and maintaining an active lifestyle, you are supporting your body for the present and also the future.
I don’t work out and eat healthy to ‘be skinny’ or to ‘lose weight’. I do it because the sweat, the endorphins, and wholesome food gives me energy and makes me feel good. In order to be the best you can be, you need to focus on yourself internally and let that inner beauty shine through. And don’t ever forget to smile.
A little about me:
Where from?: I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and moved –> Los Angeles, attending UCLA, then moved –> Austin. Why Austin? Read about my move here.
Moving to Austin was the biggest decision I have made, and can whole-heartedly say it has been the best decision thus far. I get to be active and eat at great food joints, all while enjoying the company of the nicest people. Austin is full of active, fun, friendly, music-loving, food-loving people… what’s not to love?
Favorite Eats in Austin?: Tough tie between Bouldin Creek Cafe, Blue Dahlia and La Condesa.
Favorite food?: I love shrimp and crab, Thai food, my mom’s sticky rice, or a classic grilled eggplant veggie sandwich on whole wheat bread Oh, and I loooove oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.
Vegetarian? Vegan?: Neither! I tend to eat towards the vegetarian/pescatarian side, and will seek out vegetarian and vegan restaurants. Meatwise, I mostly eat chicken and turkey, only because I don’t really like the taste of beef.
What do I do for fun?: I love being outdoors and active, whether it’s flag football, biking, rock climbing, paddle boarding, volleyball, frisbee… I’m in. I also have my yoga teaching certification and always up for some good yoga. Also, browsing around the farmer’s markets, Whole Foods and Central Market brings so much joy to my life.
My dream job?: Get paid to travel the world and eat. (anyone hiring?)
